Postcards from Romeo and Jules

High summer is here and we are soaking up all of those wonderful, warm sunshine rays. R+J Studio has been on tour, which has seen Roman holidays, gorgeous Grecian days, frolics through France and living the American dream, all the while keeping up with our to-do lists and sunshine daydreams. Have a little peek through our Postcards of Summer.

What is your spirit animal and why?
Dolphins are the most incredible creatures in my eyes. Who wouldn't want to be diving in and out of beautiful waters?
If you had to be represented by one item in your home, which item would you choose and why?
It would have to be the artwork we've collected from around the globe over the past 15 years. Each piece serves as a reminder to a specific time and place, and I love the memories and stories behind them all.
Desert Island meal and drink?
Cacio e Pepe and a glass of red wine. Life's simple pleasures!
If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be and why?
Palm tree, always. Tropical vibes are simply too hard to contend with.
Summer item you couldn’t live without
My hat and red birkenstocks. Yes, I appreciate that's two items!
Most memorable summer meal and why?
Between our Italian travels and our East Coast tour of America, we've eaten (and drank!) far too well. My summer standout will have to be my fave cocktail, the Aperol Spritz, best enjoyed in the sunshine.

What is your spirit animal and why?
I want to say something elegant and graceful but I think I am most like a meercat! Always on the move, scrappy but very family/pack orientated
If you could write a letter and receive a reply from anyone (dead or alive) who would you write to and why?
My Granny who I miss dearly to tell her about my life as there are so many times I wish she could see what I am doing and meet my kids and to hear her news which would likely be all about her garden, the WI and the news from her village.
If you had to be represented by one item in your home, which item would you choose and why?
My bed, I love to sleep but also morning cuddles in bed is hands down my favourite time of day
Desert Island meal and drink?
I would go for an Italian feast that seemingly never ends, aperitivo, antipasti, a small pasta dish, a fish main and then all the italian little biscuits with some dark dark chocolate gelato. bliss. To drink I would have a grapefruit spritz followed by some some ice cold Chablis
If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be and why?
I think perhaps an apple tree. I like the idea of being able to endlessly feed people with my fruit in a million ways (thinking crumble and cider) and be a good spot for bees and bugs
Summer item you couldn’t live without
Too many white summer dresses and some trusty birkenstocks
Most memorable summer meal and why?
Watching my little one celebrate his 6 birthday on a beach in Greece. He had had two birthdays in lockdown so to see him live his best life wearing his beloved bowtie, dancing to Greek music and eating octopus and squid with the warm summer breeze was very emotional.

What is your spirit animal and why?
The butterfly - I'm happiest in nature and I'd love to have a good nosy at everyone's gardens. Plus I can't sit still so I think flitting around suits me well.
If you could write a letter and receive a reply from anyone (dead or alive) who would you write to and why?
Daphne du Maurier is one of my favourite writers and i'd love to learn more about her life and career.
If you had to be represented by one item in your home, which item would you choose and why?
The kettle - I need a steady supply of tea to get me through the day.
Desert Island meal and drink?
A classic Sunday roast with all the trimmings and an obscene amount of gravy, followed by a dark chocolate fondant with blackcurrant sorbet. To drink, I'd start with a bottle of Riesling, then keep the margaritas coming!
If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be and why?
The Japanese Maple - colourful, dramatic and at its best in Autumn.
Summer item you couldn’t live without
My gingham bucket hat has become indispensable this year.
Most memorable summer meal and why?
Whitebait and tartare sauce from Mylor Harbour. Hot, salty perfection. If you're in Cornwall right now and within driving distance of Mylor Harbour, go and devour a bucketful.
